Prof. María del Puerto Morales is Professor at the Institute of Material Science in Madrid, within the Spanish National Research Council (ICMM / CSIC), Spain since 2008. She got her degree in Chemistry from the University of Salamanca in 1989 and her PhD in Material Science from the Madrid Autonomous University in 1993. From 1994 to 1996, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Systems of the University of Wales (UK) and got her permanent position at the ICMM/CSIC in 2000.
Her research activities are focused on the area of nanotechnology, in particular on the synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications, including the mechanism of particle formation, surface modification and its performance in biomolecule separation, NMR imaging, drug delivery and hyperthermia. She is the author of 7 chapters of books, 3 patents, 185 scientific articles with 7500 citations (h = 43) and has directed 3 doctoral theses. She has been a CSIC researcher responsible for two European research projects, one for the development of nanoparticles for the detection and treatment of breast and pancreatic cancer (Multifun 2011-2015) and another for the development of standardization and standardization methods for nanoparticles for biomedical applications (NanoMag 2013-2017).
